Our deer season in Idaho is about three months long starting with archery in September for a month, and then we get two months of rifle season.
I passed on a lot of smaller deer knowing that there where some bigger deer in the area.
As the rut got closer the bucks that I'd been seeing became fewer and far between. Then I found a 8 point non-typical shed and my attention focused on that particular area, hoping that either he was still alive or some of his offspring would be in the area.
I ended up taking this big boy yesterday morning about 9:30 at 100 yds and clipped his aorta and he went about 25yds before he piled up.
I feel pretty confident that the deer I shot is not the buck that I was looking for, but he has some striking characteristics that tell me that he is related to the buck that dropped that shed.
Hope you enjoy the pics,
Scott

Thanks AK, and you know that you're more then welcome. We don't have many Muleys around here but the whitetails are plentiful!

That's a doozy Scott!
Don't let those midwest boys know about those secret ID whitetails. They are likely to over run Northern Idaho if they get a glimpse of more bucks like that!
Those Northern bucks sure make our blacktails look real puny!
Keep up the good work. Let us know how he green scores at least. |

Thanks everyone for the nice words!
I really wish I had weighed it because I'm getting more meat the I ever imagined. I'm into my eighth hour boning it out and grinding. I haven't even touched the back legs yet!

Thats an awesome whitetail. Did you get a mount? If so do you have any pictures of it or expected date to get it back? _________________ http://community.webshots.com/user/ribo451 |
