An extra week of food for me, would be 1.5# per day, so about 10.5# extra. And over 50 what's more, a LOT. I took supplies in my Longhunter last year for 16 days. I won't do it again, doesn't make sense, if you think about it. No need to kill yourself on the way in, and things may or may not be the same as last year. I will now go back to the gear for 6-7 days, and refuel from there if necessary. |

I have Bear and deer hunts in WI.
14 day Elk hunt, in NM, ID, or CO, depending on the draws.
Maybe antelope, depending on the other hunts. |

Well, neither my son or I drew for CO muzzy elk - so we'll go OTC archery instead. Same area as last year, just with bows this time instead of front-stuffers.
Last year my son did me proud, see story here- http://www.sagecreekforums.com/phpforum/viewtopic.php?t=8730
This year we'll go to the same area and can choose the week, we may go the same week as last year anyway.

For 2010 on my “big game” list, I have an elk/deer trip in Western Montana and a deer trip in Eastern Washington.
For me, the Montana trips are bivy and public lands. I enjoy them the most. I like to get as far away from the crowds as possible. We (two of us) typically go for 10 to 12 days. We bivy two to five nights at a time, broken up by a night at some sort of base camp. In 2008 I did a rifle hunt for the first time in 25 years. We did not bivy as much because the weather is a lot different in November than September at 9000’! This year, it is back to archery in September
The Washington hunts are usually what I call “day hunts” because there is nothing too far in (unfortunately) that I can't get in and out of in a day. I typically only get 2-3 days to hunt in my home state, so that means weekends and usually crowds. I still study maps and roads and scout as much as time allows but they don’t get the same devotion (of time) as the “out of state trips”.
I enjoy this forum. I have learned a lot. If nothing else, the comments about different products and ideas trigger additional research and help with decisions when purchasing new equipment, going "lighter", or simply doing something more conveniently or efficiently. I think I have benefited the most from this specific thread (DIY).

I might actually be headed back to help a resident in WY fill a cow tag near Douglas and if so I'll grab an 029 antelope tag. I need to get this stress fracture in my foot to heal for sure. Valuable lesson for me. Don't backpack over approx. 25 pounds in trail runners ! 35 pounds was too much for my feet. _________________ Pat C.

| I did a DIY Antelope hunt with two other buddies last year near Gillette, Wyoming. That was fun, we each had one buck tag and went to the general store and found out we could each get 4 more doe tags....so we did. 3 days and 15 antelope later we were headed back to Oregon. |
