This may be a dumb question, but what State is Owens Valley even in?

If it is California... I am impressed!

It is good to see you are out scouting!

Doc T since you spent time in the Palouse, I'll tell ya...It is on the Eastern Side of the Sierras in California. California by name, Nevada by feel...

Thanks 2rocky.

I am impressed with how well California has brought back the herd.

Next question: do you actually have a tag? I hope you do and wish you well!

I only ask because I have been known to "scout" elk in places I can't hunt. You can call it "practice" (but I also I like the smell) Very Happy

He does have a tag. Matter of fact it is the equivalent of finding one of Willy Wonka's golden tickets. Or reaching back and pulling a 24ct gold horseshoe from one's posterior region. Either way, he's one lucky dude!

My understanding is they are hard horned already, as are most (all?) of the tule elk in CA. By the end of the rut you'll be hard pressed to find a bull that doesn't have at least a tine or two busted off.
