I saw in the paper this week that the state is suspending the outfitter's license for Powder River Outfitter's in Broadus Montana. They're one of the bigger outfitters out there, so if anyone is looking or already booked for the future, proceed with caution. Evidently the owner has been convicted of several violations, and the state is giving him a little time to sell the buisness to a relative.
As far as hunting big deer goes, that Broadus area can't be beat. I hunt out that way every year myself. So anyone looking, remember to do your homework and always make sure you use an outfitter who is properly licensed. Apparently some of his clients were questioned as well, for using "borrowed tags". I think what really got him in trouble was charging clients $50 to have their animals processed and donated, when in fact all he did was try to give the animals away and some ended up just getting dumped in a landfill.

Good hunting all-

An outfitter I used to work for had an understanding with all his hunters that if all they wanted was a trophy, they had to pay the processing fee (to the procerror, not the outfitter) and it would be donated to anyone that could use the meat.

Nothing wrong with that at all in Colorado.

Nothing wrong with that here either- but dumping deer carcasses in a landfill because they couldn't find enough takers, that's "wanton waste of game" and is a serious violation.
