What should I start hunting as a beginner? Okay I'm 14 and my dad and I are going to start hunting. My dad has little expirience with hunting and doesnt know what guns we should start off with and what we should start hunting. I have almost no expirence with hunting but guns I have expirence. I have had bb and pellet guns from when I was 5 until now. I have shot a 9mm, .357 mag, 410 shotgun, and a .22lr. What guns should we get and what should we start off hunting?

Hi,
Guns are tools just like wrench in a mechanic's shop. You need to know what you want to do then choose the right toll for it.
As for what game to hunt I'd say 1. work out what is legal to hunt in your area, 2. which of those that are legal to hunt are plentifull in your area, 3. how far away would you be from the game when you hunt them, 4. how large is the game you intend hunting.
When you work all that out, then go talk to the guys at the gun shop and get good advice on what calibre to shoot.
As an example, if you hunt rabbit at 50 yards then a 22LR would be great. If it was at 200yards then a 17 FireBall might be needed to get out that far.
And its no use rigging up to hunt hogs if there none for hundreds of miles from you. Better to hunt the game you have than the game you don't have.
Keep asking heaps of questions and make sure you include your Dad in your conversations.

Ditto the advice above.
If it's possible I would also buy a 22lr and a shotgun of some type. Probably a 12 gauge as it's pretty versatile but you can find single shot .410s pretty cheap. Then I would go out with your Dad and shoot them whenever I had a chance. You can never be familiar enough with how to safely use firearms. There are a lot of good deals on guns at pawn shops but I would take someone who knows about guns if you plan to buy them used.
Hunting season is right around the corner but even if it's not you can still hunt whatever game animal you are looking for year round with a camera. Just being out in the woods with the animals you are planning to hunt will pay off big in the future. Just don't expect the same animals to necessarily be where you saw them in the Spring when Fall hunting season rolls around.
And don't put a lot of pressure on yourself to fill tags. If the animals you are looking to hunt aren't overly abundant to begin with it can be easy to get discouraged if success doesn't come about quickly.
What part of the country do you live in? If you can narrow the area down maybe some local hunters on here can give better advice on what animals to hunt and good gun choices and go from there. _________________ Lifetime Idaho resident. 30yrs.
